Proposed Amendments to the Procedure By-Law
Consultation has concluded
At its meeting held on March 22, 2021, Sarnia City Council adopted the following motions:
That Sarnia City Council adopt a consistent format for all “Notices of Motion”. The motion will be stated in no more than three sentences. A seconder of the motion will be required before debate and then followed by the mover offering the rationale.
That Sarnia City Council adopt a new procedure related to “Reconsideration Motions” that would require a motion to be presented by a Councillor who previously voted in the majority for a democratically passed resolution.
Amendments to the Procedure By-Law have been drafted to reflect Council’s direction. Copies of the proposed amendment, as well as a consolidated copy of Procedure By-Law #159 of 2019 are available in the ‘Documents’ section of this page.
In accordance with the Notice Policy, 21 days’ public notice is required prior to adopting amendments to the Procedure By-Law. Council will give final consideration to the draft by-law at its regular meeting scheduled for May 3, 2021.
