Following the completion of a Germain Park Master Plan, the City is moving forward with detailed design work for an expansion of the Strangway Centre and improvements to the site.

As we work to expand and improve the Strangway Centre, ensuring it meets the evolving recreation needs of our residents, we are looking to the public for their insight.

What’s Changing?

The proposed designs maintain existing programming spaces and the hobby shop, while providing for an addition on the back of the building including a gymnasium allowing for increased recreation opportunities, bathroom, changeroom, multi-use social space, outdoor seating, and an outdoor activity space. The designs also include expansion of the centre parking lot, as directed by the Germain Park Master Plan.

Two initial design scenarios have been developed for the public to review ahead of providing their input.

PARKING

Both scenarios include a reconfiguration of the existing parking lot to accommodate 56 spaces, and an expansion with an additional 70 spaces. An image of the proposed expansion is included below.

SCENARIO A: GYMNASIUM ADDITION

Scenario A features include:

  • Full size gymnasium
  • Washroom with floor-to-ceiling stalls
  • Changeroom with floor-to-ceiling stalls, bench, lockers and sinks
  • Multi-use social space lounge area with mix of seating and tables
  • Concrete pad outdoor activity space
  • Outdoor seating space
